This course forms an essential preparatory module to the Level 5 Trinity Certificate in TESOL at English for Asia. Available as a standalone course, it will provide you with a strong theoretical base for teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), while increasing your overall fundamental knowledge of the English language. Your Starter Course fee will be deducted from the Trinity CertTESOL course fee if you choose to study with English for Asia.

You can progress through this course at your own pace, watching videos, listening to podcasts, observing trainers, sharing ideas with peers and completing reflective tasks. There are tests within the course, but these are not as rigorous as those on the Trinity CertTESOL, and there is no teaching practice.
A pass in the final quiz is required if you wish to be awarded a certificate of completion.

We will start with introducing the course and meeting the trainers and previous trainees.
In this unit you will consider current teaching methodologies, teacher roles, ways of engaging and interacting with learners, and learner levels.
In this unit you will analyse parts of speech and sentence structure from a learner’s perspective, helping you to better anticipate common problems your learners will encounter, and plan effective solutions for your classes.
Next, you will consider what we need to clarify about meaning and use of words and phrases and examine how textbooks approach this.
In this unit you will learn about using phonology as a tool for your teaching and preparation of lessons and learn some useful terminology to help us describe sounds.
This unit helps you develop your learners’ development of receptive (listening and reading) and productive (speaking and writing) skills, stage a lesson appropriately.
By watching an online receptive lesson and an in person grammar lesson, and completing associated tasks, you will see how to apply what you have learned in practice.
In this final unit, you will learn more about what the CertTESOL course entails, and consider your next steps.
After completing all of the course modules, you will need to take the final test. You will need to achieve a score of 50% or higher to complete the course and receive your digital credential. You can retake the final test up to two times (three attempts in total), and you can revisit any sections of the course to study up on questions that you find difficult.
If you successfully pass the final test, you will immediately receive your digital credential. Your digital credential includes an e-certificate, which can be downloaded and printed, and a credential badge which can be displayed on your social media and LinkedIn profiles, allowing you to showcase your achievements.
